How can you make Topical Finasteride yourself?

Disclaimer: Always consult a doctor before taking homemade treatments.

In this manual I give different recipes to make carrier solutions for topical hair loss products.

People often suggest using minoxidil solutions, and although this may work, some do not want to use minoxidil. Even if you use minoxidil, the 1-2 ml used in minoxidil applications is often too low to cover the scalp.

What are the supplies?

Ingredients and Equipment for making a Mix of Minoxidil and Finasteride:

1. Finasteride Pills:

  • Preferably use 5 mg tablets to reduce filler filtering *via your personal doctor recipe, or online via Dokteronline.nl

2. Pill grinders:

  • A pill crusher or a portable coffee bean grinder to grind the finasteride pills.

3. Minoxidil:

  • Topical minoxidil in a desired strength 5% or 2%, for example 60 ml.

4. Gloves:

  • For handling materials and ensuring hygiene.

5. Microgram Digital Kitchen Scale:

  • To measure the exact quantities of the ingredients.

Options For loan Topical Finasteride:

  • 70% ethanol
  • 30% propylene glycol
  • 80% ethanol
  • 20% glycerin
  • 60% ethanol
  • 20% glycerin
  • 20% distilled water

Process for Topical Finasteride:

  1. Mix the desired amount of finasteride tablets with a pill crusher or coffee bean grinder.
  2. Mix the powder with the desired amount of ethanol.
  3. Filter the solution with a coffee filter to obtain a clean liquid.
  4. Add moistening agent to the solution and mix thoroughly.
  5. Store the final product in amber glass bottles.

Important Notes:

  • Wear gloves when handling anti-androgenic compounds.
  • Keep the solutions away from sunlight and heat.

Mix of Minoxidil and Finasteride

Let's start with the easy option. If you want to use both topical and Minoxidil and Finasteride in one, follow the following. Of course with the doctor's permission. This is a much simpler way.

First of all, of course, you need Finasteride pills. If possible, use 5 mg tablets to reduce the amount of fillers you need to filter.

Read here you can get Finasteride pills without a doctor visit. However, you will always have a digital medical consultation to obtain a prescription.

When you have the pills you need to grind them very finely. I use a pill crusher, but you can also use a dragable coffee bean grinder.

As mentioned earlier if you want to keep it simple, you can also mix it with Minoxidil. You do this by having your topical minoxid 60 ml and fine the amount of pills and the strength percentage you want to add to the minoxidil.

For example, 15 pills of Minoxidil in 60 ml will be 0.025% finasteride per 1 ml minoxidil. By using it twice a day, you reach 0.05% per 1 ml. This should take a month.

Make sure to filter out the coating of the pills with a tweezers Use for everything gloves. And a microgram of digital kitchen scales to measure exactly what you want to mix in your solution.

Creating Topical Finasteride

Because most of us don't have pure finasteride powder, the process of making high-quality topical finasteride is a little more complicated. Here are the basic steps:

  1. Minimize the desired amount of finasteride tablets. I use a pill crusher, but you can also use a portable coffee bean grinder
If possible, use 5 mg tablets to reduce the amount of fillers you need to filter.
  2. Mix the powder with the amount of ethanol you want in the final product. Mix thoroughly, not everything will dissolve, but finasteride is well soluble in ethanol, so it will dissolve.
  3. When it seems as if the powder no longer dissolves, filter the solution. I use a coffee filter. After stopping the filtration you stay behind with some ethanol and a lot of powder in the filter. You can add a few extra mL of ethanol to wash the filter and compensate for the volume lost in the wet powder.
  4. At this point you can add your moistening agent to the solution and mix thoroughly. I keep the product in amber glass bottles that block UV.

I would also like to point out that you must wear gloves when handling anti-androgenic compounds, because you do not want to absorb them through the skin more than is necessary. You also don't want any residue on your hands and then accidentally take an anti-androgen orally.

This procedure may seem a little involved, but it creates a clean product without a lot of sediment that gets into your hair. It is also very easy to adjust the concentration to your specific application.

With this process you can create something like a 0.05 mg/mL finasteride topical, so that you have 5 mL of liquid to get good coverage of the scalp with a dose of 0.25 mg. You can easily make a year's supply of topical finasteride in an hour.

Basic Ingredients

The two basic ingredients in a carrier solution are alcohol and a moistening agent. The alcohol dissolves the active ingredients in the solution, and the moistening agent thickens the solution and prevents moisture loss on the scalp.

Alcohol

For alcohol, I recommend ethanol (ethyl alcohol). This is the type of alcohol that is contained in alcoholic beverages and is generally best tolerated. In most countries ethanol must be made "unusable" before sale without excise duty on alcoholic beverages. This sometimes means adding methanol to the ethanol, which is very toxic and absolutely must be avoided in everything you are going to apply to your body.

In fact, you have two choices for ethanol. The first is to simply buy alcohol that is intended to drink, such as 190 proof Everclear. This option is, of course, free of methanol or other deactivated substances. However, you will probably have to pay excise duty. In some places the sale of high quality spirits is also prohibited.

The other option is to buy ethanol that has been rendered unusable using bitter substances. These bitter substances are present in very small concentrations and are considered safe for application to the skin. You can search online for "medical quality ethanol." Make sure the product clearly indicates that it does not contain methanol.

Moisturising agent

The most common choice for a moistening agent is propylene glycol. This liquid is used in everything, from soft drinks to vapor juice, and is generally considered well tolerated. It should be extremely simple and cheap to buy. I recommend getting food quality propylene glycol.

Some people may have negative reactions to propylene glycol, and it has been suggested that it may cause inflammation. Another option for a moistening agent is glycerin, which could be better tolerated in some sensitive populations.

Add Active Ingredients

Most active ingredients that people use are highly soluble in ethanol. You can easily add and mix the active ingredient in powder form to the carrier solution. If you have trouble solving it, you can try adding the powder to the ethanol first and then adding the moistening agent after the powder has dissolved.

I would also like to point out that you must wear gloves when handling anti-androgenic compounds, because you do not want to absorb them through the skin more than is necessary. You also don't want any residue on your hands and then accidentally take an anti-androgen orally.

This will be clear to people who have done this before, but you need a scale that is milligrams accurate to measure your powder. Your kitchen bowl probably doesn't work. Also make sure to store these solutions from sunlight and heat to avoid breaking down the active ingredients.

Carrier options

Recipe 1

  • 70% ethanol
  • 30% propylene glycol

This is the simplest recipe and is the carrier in most minoxidil formulations. Simply mix 70% ethanol and 30% propylene glycol on volume and mix. Most people will bear this well. Many research uses this carrier.

Recipe 2

  • 80% ethanol
  • 20% glycerin

This recipe is worth trying if propylene glycol irritates your skin. Glycerin is thicker than propylene glycol, so you can use less.

Where to Buy Topical Finasteride?

You would like to buy topical finasteride products from Amazon or eBay as you shop for other products. Unfortunately, both Amazon and Ebay do not offer this. The good news is that you can get it on this website, at an affordable price. Look at it here.

To increase effectiveness, topical finasteride can be composed with minoxidil (e.g. Essengen-6 Plus with 6% minoxidil and 0.05% finasteride). It can be composed of a higher concentration of 0.2% (e.g. Essengen-F with 0.2% finasteride). It can also be composed with both retinoid acid and minoxidil (e.g. Maxogen-X with 7% minoxidil, 0.15% finasteride and 0.025% retinoid acid).

  • 60% ethanol
  • 20% glycerin
  • 20% distilled water

This is good if you want to avoid the high alcohol concentration of the second recipe. This can save you some money and be more friendly to the skin.

Closure

Making your own topical treatments can save a lot of money compared to buying premixed products. It also gives more flexibility in the concentration of your topical, which is useful for both changing your dosage and changing the amount of fluid you apply to the scalp per application.

Honestly, I think that many people get undersized results because they only use 1 ml of carrier per application and do not get proper scalp coverage.
